“As the National Operations Director for BNI Australia I have many roles to play including the role of Managing Director for the Brisbane Central & North Regions.

Every year, we have the One Brisbane Awards Breakfast and this year we wanted something different. We wanted to organise a Gala Dinner and requested Rachel to be our Event Coordinator.

Rachel, with her vast experience in managing Large Events, was a pleasure to work with. She was Professional in her approach, and at the same time, meticulous in planning the event.

The event went really well and throughout the event, Rachel was composed working out of her run sheets! I would personally recommend Rachel to a person who is looking at help in organising World Class Events.”

“I cannot speak too highly of Rachel and her ability to organise not only a brilliant and successful event but also to consider all aspects of the events, leading up to it, its conduct and then all the post-event activities.

I say this with experience of different organisation across many years and covering numerous styles of events. Of particular note was Rachels’ organising of the Special Olympics Canberra Centenary Swim Meet. This was organised to complement a year-long series of events to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the founding of Canberra. It was the only event all year involving people with an intellectual disability, and was the first time Special Olympics ran an event that allowed teams from regions, not States or Territories, to attend.

This unique and complex event requested Rachel to coordinate with over 50 regions across Australia, as well as the Special Olympics Nation Office, the Australian Institute of Sport (where the event was held) and Swimming ACT (who provided all the officials), numerous sponsors, as well as the ACT Government and the Canberra Centenary Committee. The event was an enormous success and acted as a template for future regional events for Special Olympics whilst also providing a chance for the Canberra population to see people with an intellectual disability competing in a positive and affirming environment.

On top of the amazing success of the event itself, Rachel also managed to budget to ensure the event made a profit to support Special Olympics in the ACT. A few years later Rachel then organised two key fundraisers for a local Canberra Charity, call Project Independence (a programme that allows people with an intellectual disability to buy their own home out of their Disability Support Pension (DSP)). Over several years Rachel organised both the Rubik’s Cube Balls and then the Rubik’s Cube Cocktail party. These events were all tremendously successful and raised significant funds for Project Independence.

Of note is that many attendees at the events said they were so different to other fundraising balls in that they felt engaged, had a great time, and we’re looking forward to next year’s event! Rachel Waddington will ensure your event is a great success and meets all of your expectations.
